My father has recently been diagnosed with alzheimers, he is 89 and has heavy incontinence.

The pads he wears do not seem to work as he seems to wet himself virtually all the time. Our doctor says there is nothing else that can be done for his condition. He just doesn't seem to really care for what the cause is. My dad has started taking arocet for his alzheimers, his bladder problems started about a couple of years ago gradually and getting worse as at now. We just don't know what to do anymore. When he goes to daycare, it doesnt take long before his trousers and socks are wet through. Have you any suggestions? Yours in desperation!!

Our expert answered:

Dear ZK,

From the protection you have selected, it seems that your father may be requiring product that is more protective than pads or liners. I would recommend he tries something like the Depend Super Underwear from Men which has 790ml capacity (our bladder normally holds about 300mls). You can request a free sample from the Depend website to try and see if that works for him before purchasing the product.http://www.depend.com.au/select-product/request-sample/

Also, you may also like to ask your doctor for a referral to see an continence advisor who can specifically assist with these problems. He may even be eligible for the government Continence Aids Assistance Scheme (CAAS). You can find out more about this scheme here. http://www.depend.com.au/urinary-incontinence/treatment/government-assistance/
