What are the chances of regaining bladder control after prostate cancer surgery (my partner's op was 14 months ago & is only 57 years old)
He is suffering a great deal of Phsycological problem from his child hood & I thought that this may be affecting his incontinence problem, he also was doing pelvic floor excerises up until a couple of weeks ago (he seems have resigned himself to never regaining control)
Our expert answered:
Suffering from incontinence after prostate cancer surgery is a very common problem and your partner should not feel embarrassed or ashamed about this. Regaining control differs for every individual as it is dependent on the type of incontinence and the cause. The majority of cases following prostate surgery fix themselves within 6 to 12 months but if your partner has been given radiation therapy or there are other factors, the outlook may be less optimistic.
As your partner is still experiencing problems after 14 months, it is best to consult your doctor who dealt with the prostate probelm for advice.
